PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color electronic paper writing system capable of reducing the cost of color electronic paper and a color electronic paper writing method. SOLUTION: The system displays the color of first charged particles colored to any of cyan, magenta and yellow on a display surface by impressing a voltage to the color electronic paper 2 formed with respective pixels by a plurality of microcapsules sealed therein with the first charged particles. The voltage is impressed to the prescribed region of the color electronic paper 2 by first pixel electrodes 8 in such a manner that all the microcapsules 25 existing in the prescribed region attain a color development state and which of the plurality of the colors is the color display on the display surface of the prescribed region when the voltage is impressed by the first pixel electrodes is detected by a luminance sensor 9. The color development states of the respective sealed-in regions existing in the prescribed region are controlled by the second pixel electrodes 10 based on the colors of the respective pixels constituting the display images to be displayed in the prescribed region and the results of the detection of the color detecting means.
