PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starting device of an engine capable of realizing reduction of fuel consumption and suppression of CO2emission or the like by appropriately setting the stop position of a piston and improving restartability of the engine with simple structure in the starting device of the engine carrying out idling stop. SOLUTION: The fuel supply for automatic stopping of the engine is stopped when automatic stop condition is established, and it is determined that the number of revolutions of the engine is within a range 83 of a predetermined permissible number of revolutions for fuel supply stop. The range 83 of the permissible number of revolutions for the fuel supply stop is set in narrower range within a range 81 of the target number of revolutions in feedback control of the idle number of revolutions.
