PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous coating composition which forms a coating film excellent in adhesion, water resistance, and resistance to fats and oils. SOLUTION: The aqueous coating composition comprises a copolymer composed of 5-30 mass% units of a vinyl monomer (A) represented by formula (I): CH<SB>2</SB>=CH-O-CO-R1 (wherein R1 is hydrogen or a 1-4C alkyl group),≥70 mass% units of an alkyl (meth)acrylate (B) having a 1-4C alkyl group, and 0-25 mass% units of another copolymerizable vinyl monomer (C) and a chlorinated polyolefin resin at a mass ratio of the copolymer (A+B+C) to the chlorinated polyolefin resin of 95/5 to 50/50.
