PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical press apparatus for both single and double actions capable of pressing a large-sized blank with high pressure by forming the apparatus into a use form of a single action type in spite of being a double action type. SOLUTION: The mechanical press apparatus equipped with a driving section 11 for vertically moving an outer slide 8 and an inner slide 9 at prescribed timing is fixed with a lifting plate 10 at the lower end surface of the outer side 8 and the under surface of the lifting plate 10 is provided with a die set section (a notched groove 35) for mounting an upper die 7. Also, the driving section 11 has output rods 17 and 18 connected to the outer slide and the inner slide and the output rod 17 is equipped with a fluid pressure cylinder 17A and a plunger 17B inserted into the fluid pressure cylinder. Even if the outer slide 8 stops due to overloading during descending, the plunger 17B descends while pushing out the pressure fluid in the fluid pressure cylinder 17A and the inner slide 9 descends without stopping and the pressing force thereof is applied atop the lifting plate 10.
