NETWORK-BASED REMOTE METER READING SYSTEM

Disclosed is a network-based remote meter reading system for measuring and reading a flow rate. The meter reading system comprises at least one meter, at least one indoor monitor (32), and a central computer (44). The meter measures the flow rate, processing the measured result using its microcomputer (26), and wirelessly transmitting data regarding the processed result. The indoor monitor (32) which is installed indoors separately from the meter receives and displays the data wirelessly transmitted from the meter. The central computer (44) receives the data transmitted from the indoor monitor (32) via a network, calculates a consumption fee and consumption period based on the measured result and time data contained in the received data, and transmits data regarding the calculated consumption fee and period to the corresponding indoor monitor (32). The meter reading system does not require a meter reader, thus reducing the cost of reading the meter.
