UNIVERSAL JOINT HAVING BEARING CUP RETAINING THRUST WASHER

PURPOSE: A universal joint having a bearing cup retaining thrust washer is provided to retain a bearing cup assembly on a trunnion without using an external disposable material. CONSTITUTION: A universal joint(10) is composed of a pair of yokes(16,18) connected via a cruciform. The cruciform has four orthogonal trunnions having lubrication paths. A thrust washer is engaged with a portion of the trunnion to retain a bearing assembly on each trunnion. The thrust washer has a disk partitioning part and a flange. The disk partitioning part is engaged with the end face of the trunnion, while the flange is engaged with the outer wall surface of the trunnion.
