<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing state display device and a focusing state display method by which a user can accurately and easily determine the focusing state of a camera, confirm and control in-focusing even in a display device limited in the size and resolution of a mobile terminal device with a built-in camera. <P>SOLUTION: The focusing state display device is provided with: a focus region extracting means for extracting an image signal of a predetermined region from a picked-up image signal; an edge emphasis processing means for emphasizing the edge of the extracted image signal; a time integration value calculating means 25 for calculating an integrated value for a fixed time of the edge-emphasized image signal; a focus state discriminating means 26 for discriminating the focusing state of the picked-up image signal on the basis of the calculated integrated value; and a focus state display means 31 for displaying the discriminated focus state.
