PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program runaway detecting circuit for detecting a runaway mode in which a program sequence is put in a status that timer reset is instructed as it is in a CPU. SOLUTION: In this software-controlled microprocessor system, a program runaway detecting circuit for detecting the runaway of a program in an operational processing part is provided with a first timer means for starting the measurement of an elapsed time when the microprocessor system is started, and for being initialized according to a program signal to be almost regularly transmitted from an operational processing part by a control program, and for detecting a first runaway mode when the program signal is delayed and a second timer means for starting the measurement of the elapsed time according to a regular program signal, and for being initialized when any program signal is not outputted, and for detecting a second runaway mode when the program signal is continuously outputted.
