PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video camera and a video recording and reproducing system capable of obtaining a video signal for imaging an object wherein resolutions of three primary blue, red, green color signals are equal to one another with an inexpensive configuration, and the resolution is higher than that of an HDTV image (horizontally 1920 pixels×vertically 1080 pixels). SOLUTION: A camera head 1 divides incident object light into two, which are separately made incident to two imaging elements for an HDTV system, from which two imaging signals are obtained. Pixels of the two imaging elements are arranged while relatively being deviated by a 1/2 pixel pitch each in both horizontal and vertical directions. Two-divided video signals obtained by applying signal processing to the two imaging signals are subjected to pixel interpolation by using two adjacent pixels in the vertical direction and two adjacent pixels in the horizontal direction by a pixel interpolation unit 5 and combined further and outputted. Recording and reproducing apparatuses 9, 10 separately apply recording and reproduction to the two-divided video signals whose resolutions are almost the same as that of the HDTV system.
