PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for identifying recorded medium for identifying a type of a recorded medium and a recording apparatus for printing an image on the recorded medium provided with the apparatus for identifying recorded medium. SOLUTION: A speckle-measuring part 106 of the recording apparatus 40 measures the speckles of the recorded medium 206 on a carrying path P (step 310). The measured speckle and speckles, previously associated with the types of the recorded media and stored in a storage part 114, are compared, and the type of the recorded medium 206 is detected by determining whether they match (step 312).
