PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To neutralize metal ion-containing acidic waste liquid (for example, waste liquid generated when a stainless steel plate is pickled by hydrofluoric acid-containing sulfuric acid, and acidic plating waste liquid) by using an inexpensive general-purpose alkali agent so as to realize good sedimentation and reduce the amount of generated sludge. SOLUTION: The acidic waste liquid is treated with a first alkali agent mainly comprising an alkali metal oxide and/or hydroxide (for example, caustic soda), and then treated with a second alkali agent mainly comprising an alkaline earth metal oxide and/or hydroxide (for example, slaked lime).
