The evaluation method has a number of counters (ZLU(a)) assigned to characteristic field regions of the engine, with detection of the actual characteristic field region (a) and incrementation of the corresponding counter by a given increment (INC) when the signal (LUSTD) representing the irregular running of the IC engine exceeds a threshold value (LUSCHW(a)).
