PURPOSE: A software upgrading method in a wireless communication environment is provided to reduce time and cost and save manpower by allowing a base station to upgrade software of each terminal. CONSTITUTION: A base station transmits a specific message when software of a terminal is required(200). It is determined whether the terminal is to download the software from the base station(201). The terminal is switched to a download mode(202). The base station transmits compressed or non-compressed software data(203). The terminal checks sequence numbers of the transmitted data(204). The terminal determines whether a sequence number has been omitted(205). The terminal requests re-transmission of data corresponding to the omitted sequence number or the entire data(206). The base station re-transmits the terminal-requested data(207). The terminal determines whether the received data is compressed data(208). If the re-transmitted data is not compressed data, the terminal stores it in a memory(209). If the re-transmitted data is compressed data, the terminal decompresses it and stores it in the memory(210). The terminal determines whether downloading from the base station has been normally performed(211). If the downloading has been normally performed, the terminal releases the download mode and the base station returns to a normal service environment(212). If the downloading has been abnormal, the base station re-transmits the data in response to request of the terminal(213).
