PURPOSE: Provided is a cosmetic composition comprising the Pyrus communis L. extract as an active ingredient for skin whitening. The composition inhibits melanogenesis and has stable formulation, while causing no skin stimulation. CONSTITUTION: The composition for skin whitening comprises, as an active ingredient, 0.01-20.0 wt.% of the Pyrus communis L. extract which is obtained by using, as an extraction solvent, (a) water, (b) C1-4 anhydrous or hydrous lower alcohol, (c) a mixed solvent of the lower alcohol and water, (d) acetone, (e) ethyl acetate, (f) chloroform or (g) 1,3-butyleneglycol. The composition is formulated into suspension, emulsion, paste, gel cream, lotion, powder, oil, powder type foundation, emulsion type foundation, wax type foundation and spray.
