PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an up convert video detecting apparatus with which a signal of a 480I material up converted into 1080I and a signal of the 1080I material can be discriminated on the side of a receiver. SOLUTION: When a 1080I video signal is received, whether or not a side panel is added is detected and when it is detected that the side panel is added, the received 1080I video signal judges that the 480I material is up converted into 1080I.
