METHOD FOR PRODUCING 1-ISOPROPYLCYCLOPENTADIENE AND HINOKITIOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce hinokitiol by highly selectively synthesizing 1-isopropylcyclopentadiene from cyclopentadiene and then adding a dihalogenoketene thereto and carrying out solvolysis of the addition product. SOLUTION: 1-Isopropylcyclopentadiene is produced by steps consisting of (a) a step for preparing a cyclopentadienyl alkali metal from cyclopentadiene and an alkali metal or alkali metal hydride, (b) a step for preparing a cyclopentadienyl alkaline earth metal compound by successively reacting the resultant cyclopentadienyl alkali metal with an alkaline earth metal halide and (c) a step for obtaining 1-isopropylcyclopentadiene by reacting the cyclopentadienyl alkaline earth metal compound with an isopropylating agent to provide isopropylcyclopentadiene and then isomerizing 5-isopropylcyclopentadiene in the isopropylcyclopentadiene to 1-isopropylcyclopentadiene.
