PURPOSE: An electric power steering system is provided to reduce the volume of the system, to cut down manufacturing cost, and to improve steering force by forming a worm and a worm wheel gear with the large deceleration ratio. CONSTITUTION: An electric power steering system comprises a rack housing(1), a rack bar installed in the rack housing and composed of a rack gear and a screw, a piston shaft engaged with the rack gear formed in the rack bar, a sensor unit detecting steering torque of the pinion shaft, an electric motor(5) driven according to the signal from the sensor unit, a ball screw part supporting right and left sliding of the rack bar in the end of the rack bar, and a decelerator(100) formed by engaging a driving gear installed in the end of the electric motor shaft with a driven gear installed in a ball nut(6) of the ball screw part. The decelerator is composed of a worm(110) and a worm wheel gear(120).
