PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impurity removing device for easily and accurately removing impurities as well as large impurities not deposited on a filter by mounting the filter to be movable up and down, and a method of installing the same in non-cutoff of water. SOLUTION: At a position where the move-down of a filter element 6 is stopped, an introduction pipe 50 is matched to an inflow pipe 1a on the inflow side and city water introduced from the inflow pipe 1a is delivered through the filter element 6 to an outflow pipe 1b, and so the impurities in the city water is trapped by the filter element 6. At a position where the move-up of the filter element 6 is stopped, the filter element 6 is stored in the filter case 5 which is internally sealed and shut off by a base plate 42 at the lower end thereof and the introduced city water is delivered directly to the other outflow pipe 1b, and so the impurities can be removed without being influenced by the flow of the city water.
