Methods and apparatus for treatment of patent foramen ovale (PFO) provide fo r applying energy to tissues adjacent the PFO with a catheter device. The devi ce includes a catheter device (200) having at least one energy transmission member (214) at or near the distal end. Some embodiments of the catheter device include one or more tissue apposition members (223) near the distal e nd for helping bring PFO tissues together, such as a PFO covering member, a vacuum applying member and/or the like.
