PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a servo write system for compensating the variations in dimensional errors of a head recording element and recording a servo pattern in a servo pattern recording area with the designed number of tracks and track pitches. SOLUTION: The servo signal writing method for recording the servo pattern on a magnetic disk by using a head includes: a process for recording a first servo pattern to detect the positional information of the head; and a process for detecting the positional information of the head from the first servo pattern, performing positioning control of the head at a target position, and recording a second servo pattern. The first servo pattern is recorded with the spacing twice the recoding element core width in the radial direction of the magnetic disk and in six blocks or more which do not overlap with one another in a peripheral direction. At the same time, the second servo pattern is recorded on the basis of two position signals generated from two pairs of differential signals which can be obtained from the blocks.
