PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber for providing a necessary load characteristic without increasing weight. SOLUTION: A crush box 10 forming the shock absorber has a cylindrical part 13 formed in a substantially cylindrical shape and a square cylindrical part 15 continuously formed in a substantially square cylindrical shape to the rear end side of the cylindrical part 13 by means of a step 14. The square cylindrical part 15 is superposingly arranged on the outer peripheral side of a front side member 12, and is joined by welding W. Since the cylindrical part 13 is a cylinder comprising a large radius R1 wound along the outer peripheral side of the front side member 12, a cross section coefficient of the cylindrical part 13 is high.
