PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a boom device for a rig merchant ship not to interfere with a hatch cover and cargo handling work allowing a hatchway to have a large opening dimension in a longitudinal direction in the rig merchant ship having a rig mast between the hatchways. SOLUTION: The boom device of the rig merchant ship provided with the rig mast between the hatchways on the center line of the body of the ship is provided with a winch for spreading a sail, and a pair of the booms arranged on both sides of the hatchway so as to vertically move and rotate. The boom can be stored at a position lower than the height of a hatch coaming. The boom is made in short length of about a half of a base of the sail fully spread. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
