PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize and simplify an apparatus for multi-beam scanning and to reduce the cost thereof while keeping the respective gaps of a plurality of optical beams at high accuracy. SOLUTION: The apparatus for multi-beam scanning is provided with a setting means which sets the gap in a subscanning direction of the respective beam spots of the plurality of optical beams formed on a plane to be scanned, at least one optical path deflection means which varies the position of the beam spots on the plane to be scanned of any of the plurality of optical beams, a moving means which inserts and retracts at least one of the optical deflection means on at least one of optical paths of the plurality optical beams, and a control means which causes the moving means to insert and retract at least one of optical deflection means on at least one of the optical paths on the basis of the gap of the beam spots set by the setting means.
