PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system driving device having a high performance in which a leakage magnetic field can be stabilized easily and a large leakage magnetic field can be obtained without causing needless resonance or the like in a carriage. SOLUTION: The optical system driving device has a medium holder 51 holding a recording medium so as to load and unload freely, an optical element holder 2 holding an optical element 1, a carriage 31 supporting the optical element holder 2 in the direction of focus and/or tracking so as to be able to displace, and a carriage drive means driving the carriage 31 in the direction of tracking. The carriage drive means has a magnetic circuit having magnets 15a, 15b and yokes 14a, 14b provided at an unmoving part with the carriage 31 and applying a magnetic field to coils 8a, 8b, part or whole of the medium holder 51 is formed by a magnetic material, and the magnetic circuit and the medium holder 51 are coupled by coupling members 61a, 61b composed of a magnetic material.
