METHOD FOR PRODUCING ULTRAHIGH-MOLECULAR WEIGHT POLYESTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ultrahigh-molecular weight polyester having excellent handleability during molding processing after polymerization and≥2.0 intrinsic viscosity. SOLUTION: The method for producing the ultrahigh-molecular weight polyester is carried out as follows. When the polyester is polymerized by using an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a glycol as starting raw materials, the aromatic dicarboxylic acid and the glycol are initially prepolymerized to provide a polyester. The prepolymerized polyester is heat-treated in a solvent undissolving the polyester and solid phase polymerization is then carried out.
