The gasket (14) has at least one sheet metal layer (30) which has at least one positioning hole (20) through which a positioning element (16) passes into the engine block (10). The diameter of the positioning hole, measured when the metal layer is flat, is only slightly larger than that of the positioning element. The metal layer is also cut through at a parting point radially outside a sector of the edge of the positioning hole.
