PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber that is convenient for transport and storage, and that can be simply manufactured, even in the one in which a pressure regulating cylinder or a reserver tank need be connected on the external of a cylinder. SOLUTION: In this shock absorber, a piston 7 provided at one end of a piston rod 6 movably inserted into the cylinder 5 moves in the cylinder 5, while working fluid is let to flow out of/into the cylinder 5 through piping H to achieve prescribed damping action. A passage is provided in the piston rod 6 to communicate the inside of the cylinder 5 with the piping. A check valve is provided on the passage to prohibit flow of working fluid from the inside of the cylinder 5 toward the piping H.
