PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that sputter enters into the inside to form impurities when joining an impeller shell of a torque converter and a converter cover with arc welding. SOLUTION: FSW (friction stirring work) which is free of sputtering is applied to a fitting portion 8 between the impeller shell 1 and the converter cover 2 to be joined together. On this purpose, inner and outer bonded faces forming the fitting portion between the impeller shell and the converter cover are exposed onto the end face opposed to a FSW star rod 7 which comes near from the axial direction. During joining the bonded faces with the FSW, a shoulder portion 1b is formed on the impeller shell or the converter cover for supporting the load of the star rod. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
