PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve lubrication performance in a tappet 41 and a valve gear cam 40 and to improve the operation of a valve gear system by effectively utilizing oil flowing from a cylinder head side for lubricating the tappet 41 and the valve gear cam 40. SOLUTION: An overhead valve engine interlocks a suction valve and an exhaust valve from the valve gear cam 40 via the tappet 41 and a push rod 42. An oil inlet passage 44 is provided at a push rod receiving recess 43 of the tappet 41, an oil outlet passage 46 is provided on a cam contacting surface 45 of the tappet 41, an oil well passage 47 is provided in the tappet 41, the oil inlet passage 44 and the oil outlet passage 46 communicate with the oil well passage 47, and the passage sectional area of the oil well passage 47 is made larger than those of the oil inlet passage 44 and the oil outlet passage 46.
