PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing hydroxyapatite in which gypsum resources left in the unutilized state in various fields, such as desulpho-gypsum, a gypsum board and a used gypsum mold as a die for pottery, are effectively utilized, which is free of the problem of waste liquid treatment, and by which hydroxyapatite having a Ca to P ratio close to the theoretical ratio can easily be manufactured. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing hydroxyapatite, gypsum and a basic calcium compound are used as sources of calcium, these sources of calcium are put in an aqueous ammonium phosphate solution in such a way that a Ca to P molar ratio becomes the theoretical ratio of hydroxyapatite, and they are stirred at room temperature to 100°C and brought into a reaction.
