PURPOSE: A device for preserving write buffer data within a CPU and a method therefor are provided to enable a CPU to receive a control signal from a fault sensor and call an exception handler, thereby preventing a data loss even though an exception error is generated in a cache memory of a fault tolerant computer system. CONSTITUTION: A fault sensor(250) senses that data of a write buffer(210) cannot be used in a cache memory(230), and generates a control signal to store the data in a fault recovery buffer(260). The fault recovery buffer(260) receives the control signal, and temporarily stores data information outputted from the write buffer(210). An exception handler(270) is called by a CPU(200) when the control signal for informing of an exception error is received, and handles the error of the cache memory(230), then writes the data stored in the fault recovery buffer(260) in the cache memory(230).
