<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evaluate the picture quality of an image compressing device without requiring an original image before compression. <P>SOLUTION: A compressed image S for evaluation obtained by photographing a gradation chart by a camera attached to a mobile telephone set 1 is expanded by an expansion part 12 to obtain a restored image S1 for evaluation. An edge detection part 14 detects the intensity E0 of an edge generated in the restored image S1 for evaluation. A standardization part 16 obtains standardized edge intensity E1 by standardizing the edge intensity E0 with the image size and visual density range of the restored image S1 for evaluation and evaluates the corresponding picture quality of the mobile telephone set 1 as a reference value of picture quality evaluation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
