PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light amplifier device performing feed-forward control when receiving a signal of a light waveform that can induce a light surge, thereby protecting optical components and also monitoring an input light intensity after amplifying the signal light to an easily monitorable level. SOLUTION: A light monitor 51 is provided on the output side of a light amplifier section 15-1; and a memory section 48 is provided for storing the relation between an input to the light amplifier section 15-1 and an output from the light monitor 51; wherein the input light intensity to the light amplifier section 15-1 is monitored from the output of the light monitor 51 and the relation stored in the memory section 48 by operating the light amplifier section 15-1 with a constant excitation electric power.
