PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk unit which is stably operated even if the power source capacity drops to a certain level and which can be driven for a long period of time by using a battery. SOLUTION: The magnetic disk unit to which a power source is supplied from the battery to operate is provided with a power source state detecting means detecting the state of the power source, an operation state controlling means controlling an operation/suspension state of each section of the unit and a unit controlling means combining and selecting the sections which can independently operate among each of the sections of the unit according to the output from the power source state detecting means and controlling the operation state controlling means to bring only the selected sections into an operating state.
