The present invention notably relates to a protein or a polypeptide, characterized in that it corresponds to an amino acid sequence, comprising or being constituted by: a sequence corresponding to SEQ ID NO:2(Syncitin 2), or a sequence derived from SEQ ID NO:2 by insertion, deletion or substitution of at least one amino acid, provided that the protein or the polypeptide corresponding to said derived sequence presents a fusogenic activity similar to that of Syncitin 2 and/or an antigenic activity similar to that of Syncitin 2, or a homologous sequence presenting at least 85% amino acid identity with SEQ ID NO:2, provided that the protein or the polypeptide corresponding to said homologous sequence presents a fusogenic activity similar to that of Syncitin 2, and/or an immunosuppressive activity similar to that of Syncitin 2 and/or an antigenic activity similar to that of Syncitin 2.
