METHOD FOR PRODUCING BOTH PROPYLENE OXIDE AND STYRENE MONOMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combination production process for propylene oxide and a styrene monomer by a peroxide method in which the total yield of the styrene monomer is enhanced by recovering an effective component contained in a by-product oil which is a heavy residual material containing metal salts such as a sodium salt to convert into the styrene monomer without adding a complicated process or the like. SOLUTION: This combination production process for propylene oxide and a styrene monomer by the peroxide method has a process for separating a fraction containing metal salts from the raw material liquid of a dehydration process by means of distillation. The production process is characterized in that a styrene monomer precursor component having a phenylethoxy group as a basic skeleton is recovered from the fraction in the process for separating a high boiling point fraction containing the metal salts, and is fed to the dehydration process for producing the styrene monomer to be converted thereinto.
