PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conveyance device capable of preventing drop of an object to be conveyed without using a balance weight when supply of electric power to a linear motor is shut off and to provide an image reading device and an image forming apparatus provided with the conveyance device. SOLUTION: This conveyance device 1 is provided with the linear motor 13 for conveying an object to be conveyed 10 by lifting/lowering it, a belt mechanism in which a looplike belt 18 connected with the object to be conveyed is stretched over at least two rotary pulleys 11, 12 and the belt moves together with conveyance of the object to be conveyed, guide mechanisms 14, 15 guiding conveyance of the object to be conveyed, and brake mechanisms 21 to 24 arranged in the belt mechanism to suppress travel of the object to be conveyed when supply of electric power to a driving source or the apparatus body is shut off.
