PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which suppresses a decline in cleaning capacity by removing dust automatically from a filter during cleaning operation. SOLUTION: A main body of the cleaner 2 is equipped with an electric blower 25, a filter 30 which filters suction air to trap dust and a dust removing device 27 which removes dust trapped by the filter. A clogging detection means which detects clogging of the filter 30 during the operation of the electric blower 25 and a controlling device 28 are provided. After the clogging detection means detects the clogging of the filter 30, a dust removing controlling portion of the controlling device 28 halts the operation of the electric blower 25 and actuates the dust removing device for a prescribed period.
