The invention relates to an image guide, in particular for an endoscope. Said guide consists of a quartz image bundle of step-index fibres, each of which is composed of a core and a jacket. The longitudinal extension of the image guide contains at least one arc-shaped kink, whose radius of curvature is calculated in such a way that light rays guided inside the jacket exit the guide in the vicinity of the kink from the individual fibres. The bend in the quartz image bundle causes a significant increase in contrast, as the light rays that are guided in the jacket are refracted and leave the image bundle at right angles to the propagation direction.
