PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically form a target pattern Tp of the optimum temperature change in accordance with various combinations of materials and thickness of workpieces to be welded, in a resistance welding control method in which weld zone temperature during the resistance welding is estimated by thermal conductivity calculation and in which a welding current is increased or decreased so that the estimated weld zone temperature is nearly equalized to the target pattern of the prescribed temperature change. SOLUTION: In the resistance welding control method, the material and thickness of a workpiece are inputted to calculate time Tm for reaching the highest temperature, the highest temperature Tpm, welding completion time Te, and welding completion temperature Tpe. Then, the temperature change target pattern Tp is automatically formed in the manner that the temperature rises from a predetermined initial temperature Tps comparable to the ambient temperature at the start of welding to the highest temperature Tpm in the time Tm for reaching the highest temperature, and that it then goes down to the welding completion temperature Tpe at the welding completion time Te.
