PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device having a high numerical aperture and satisfactory light utilizing efficiency. SOLUTION: In the display device consisting of a first substrate which constitutes the lowermost layer of the display device, a first electrode provided on the first substrate, an insulating layer provided on the first electrode and consisting of an insulating material film and a low surface energy film, a second electrode provided on the insulating layer, a cavity partition enclosing the second electrode at an interval, a second substrate which is provided on the cavity partition and constitutes the uppermost layer and a colored liquid drop encapsulated in the cavity partition and utilizing an electrowetting phenomenon generated by applying an electric field to the colored liquid drop, the insulating material film has a relative dielectric constant of≥3 and 10 to 100 nm thickness and the low surface energy film has≤100 nm thickness,≤20 mN/m surface energy and 5 to 45 nm surface roughness.
