PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent display characteristics and to improve a manufacturing yield by forming an alignment layer by using a drying means which supplies hot air. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with the alignment layer which is film formed by applying an alignment layer material solution SO to the surface of a glass substrate 1, imparting a hot air stream to the alignment layer material solution SO applied to the glass substrate 1, discharging a residual hot air staying on the periphery of the glass substrate 1, and drying the alignment layer material solution SO by reciprocating the glass substrate 1 relative to a plane intersecting the hot air stream in the plane direction. The alignment layer has a protruding part mounted on an alignment layer corner part, which has film thickness thicker than an alignment layer edge part. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
