<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate paper removing work in a paper jam and replacing work of an electrostatic latent image carrier in a vertical tandem image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: When a handle 117 is turned in the direction of C, a hook part 122a of a lock lever 122 and a projecting part 138 are engaged with each other (refer to Figure (a)) because a hook part 112a pushes the lock lever 122 while keeping engagement with a projecting part 128. When the handle 117 is pulled in the direction of an arrow B thereafter, a front cover 110, a frame 120, and a frame 130 are integrated into one body, and an engaging claw 135a and a projecting part 147 are disengaged from each other, so that the front cover 110, the frame 120, and the frame 130 are integrally opened (refer to Figure (b)).
