<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To raise the temperature so as to be able to form an image, in a short period of time and to reduce the amount of overshoot after the end of starting operation. <P>SOLUTION: An image heating device has; a heating roll which has a heater A having the heat value in the center part made larger than that in end parts and a heater B having the heat value in end parts made larger than that in the center part and heats images on a recording material; a thermistor for detecting the temperature of the heating roll; a power supply control means for controlling power supply to heaters A and B so that the temperature of the heating roll reaches a target temperature; a first starting mode of stopping power supply to the heater A after arrival at a preset temperature when raising the temperature of the heating roll to the target temperature at which images can be formed; and a second starting mode of using heaters A and B to raise the temperature to the target temperature.
