<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which correctly discriminates the service life of a capacitor used as an auxiliary power source for a fixing device. <P>SOLUTION: The power source circuit of the fixing device shown in Fig. includes: a capacitor CP1 which is the chargeable auxiliary power source ; a capacitor charger 203 which charges the capacitor CP1; a fixing heater HT1 where power from the capacitor CP1 is supplied and generate heat, and heats a fixing roller 151; a capacitor charging/discharging circuit 208 which detects the charged voltage of the capacitor CP1; and a thermistor TH11 which detects the surface temperature of the fixing roller 151; and a control part 202 which controls supply of power from the capacitor CP1 to the fixing heater HT1 on the basis of the detected charged voltage of the capacitor CP1 and the detected surface temperature of the fixing roller 151, detects the number of times that the capacitor CP1 is discharged, and discriminates the service life of the capacitor CP1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
