<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a cytoplasmic male sterility strain or fertility restoring strain of rice using a cytoplasmic male sterility restoring gene. <P>SOLUTION: The fertility of rice is artificially varied by introducing a cytoplasmic male sterility restoring gene DNA to a rice plant, or the cytoplasmic male sterility restoring gene DNA is used as a marker in breeding.
