<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily detecting abrasion in an object to which detection of abrasion is relatively difficult using a data carrier capable of making communication in a contactless way by means of electromagnetic waves, and a method for easily detecting abrasion using the data carrier capable of making communication in a contactless way by means of electromagnetic waves even when an abraded part of the object is formed of metal material. <P>SOLUTION: An abrasion limit position 3 is set on the inside of an abraded part 2 in a brake shoe 1, and the data carrier 6 is disposed on the abrasion limit position 3. When abrasion at the abraded part 2 is found as advanced to the abrasion limit position 3, communication functions of the data carrier 6 are damaged to make communication difficult.
