PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To constitute an annealing furnace having an annealing base, a protective hood, a radial blower for circulating a protective gas in the protective hood, a heat exchanger for cooling the protective gas, and a deflector for selectively connecting a flow path led to the heat exchanger to the heat exchanger with the radial blower so as to attain advantageous cooling of the protective gas without exerting inconvenient effect to the structure of the annealing furnace. SOLUTION: The protective hood (8) is held in a gas-tight manner via an annular flange (9), the heat exchanger (11) is disposed below the annular flange (9), the flow conduit (13) consists of an annular conduit (14) starting from the guide apparatus (5) and being concentric to an annular gap (12), and the deflector is constituted as an annular deflection slider (18)which encloses the guide apparatus (5) from the outside.
