<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switch using an optical waveguide which is simply manufactured without providing a complicated manufacturing process and in which a light signal is hardly attenuated. <P>SOLUTION: The optical switch 10 is equipped with a lower cladding layer 13 on a substrate 11, a core layer 12 on the lower cladding layer 13, a plurality of incident parts 12a-1 to 12a-8, a plurality of light emitting parts 12b-1 to 12b-8 on the core layer 12 and a slab waveguide 12c between a plurality of the incident parts 12a-1 to 12a-8 and a plurality of the light emitting parts 12b-1 to 12b-8. Besides, by making infrared rays irradiate a slab waveguide 12c so as to form a specified waveguide pattern, temperature distribution is drawn on the slab waveguide 12c.
