A stopper 18, of the kind adapted to seal the end of a conduit 12 which terminates in a chamber 15 in which high pressure and/or temperature conditions exist whilst permitting a probe on the like to be inserted into the chamber, comprises a body 10 which encloses the chamber 15 and in which is pivotally mounted the stopper 18 having two extreme positions in the first of which it completely seals the conduit 12 and in the second of which it leaves the conduit completely unobstructed, the stopper being urged by resilient means into the first position. The stopper 18 has a head 20 to fit a spherical seating around the lower end of the conduit 12 and is of cylindrical shape for rotation in a correspondingly shaped chamber 15. A torsion spring 21, heated alongside the stopper 18, urges the latter into its conduit closing position. The stopper has a U-shaped recess which receives the lower end of the conduit 12, the lower end of the body 10 being screw-threaded for mounting in the casing of a gas turbine engine.
